Increased Duration of HFNC Prior to Intubation Associated with High Mortality Rate

Among with acute respiratory failure due to COVID-19 pneumonia who failed HFNC and were intubated, prolonged duration of HFNC prior to intubation was association with increased mortality. Those intubated within 24 h of HFNC had a 50% in-hospital mortality rate. Those who were on HFNC for more than seven days before intubation had a mortality rate of 80%
