Recruitment and follow-up flow chart. Seventy-five patients receiving non-thoracic and non-abdominal elective surgery at the Peking Union Medical College Hospital from August to October 2019 were recruited; each provided signed informed consent before the diaphragm ultrasonogram. Baseline diaphragm ultrasound including diaphragm excursion and diaphragm thickening fraction of quiet breathing and deep breathing were acquired prior to operation.
