  1. Model adjusted R2 = 0.16, F = 36.86, p < 0.001. Independent variables included in the stepwise multivariate linear regression analysis were APACHE-II score, 1/creatinine, 1/LDH, inclusion group and sex. To obtain a homogeneous dispersion in the residuals, a transformation had to be applied to the independent variables creatinine and LDH. For the variable sex: 0 = man and 1 = female. For the variable inclusion group: 1 = C-group and 2 = S-group.
