Indications

primary airway management device in the operative setting in pre-selected, fasted patients

a temporary bridge to intubation by pre-hospital providers

in cardiac arrest situations

a rescue device in “can’t intubate, can’t oxygenate”

alternative to the use of bag valve masks to reduce the risk of gastric inflation

Contraindications

a conscious or awake patient

poor pulmonary compliance

high airway resistance

pharyngeal pathology

a risk for aspiration and/or airway obstruction below the larynx.
