New Content ItemGuangde has been the Editor of BMC Anesthesiology since 2016 and is based in the Shanghai office. Before joining BMC, Guangde received his BSc in theoretical physics from Nanjing University, China and his PhD in quantum chemistry from the Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden. After graduation, he returned to China as an assistant researcher investigating the growth of composite membranes for water processing, before moving on to study the growth of solid tumors using computer simulation. His interest then turned to medical science and he worked as medical editor for a number of years before joining BMC as an editor of the BMC series.

Sanchit Ahuja, Cleveland Clinic, USA

Sanchit AhujaDr. Ahuja is a physician-scientist and an expert in the field of Anesthesiology. He completed his medical school in India, a residency in Anesthesiology, and a clinical fellowship in Critical Care; after moving to the United States, he completed a formal fellowship training in Clinical Research at Outcomes Research Department at the Cleveland Clinic (www.or.org). Subsequently, Dr. Ahuja completed a Clinical Fellowship in Regional Anesthesia and acute pain at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Ahuja’s scientific focus is outcomes research, perioperative hemodynamics, organ injuries such as myocardial injury, acute kidney injury, delirium, perioperative strokes, postoperative pulmonary complications, anesthesia for thoracic procedures, airway management, and emergency medicine. Newer modalities to control acute post-surgical pain involve nerve blocks and non-opioid-based therapies; surgical site infections; therapies that can reduce cerebrovascular accidents such as perioperative stroke; complex airway management; and hypothermia septic shock are his additional areas of clinical research. Dr. Ahuja is a principal investigator and active collaborator in almost a dozen ongoing/completed major clinical trials and multicentered observational studies. Dr. Ahuja has published more than 34 full scientific papers in several high–indexed journals and numerous book chapters and serves as an Editor and a reviewer of several major scientific journals. Dr. Ahuja is a member of several international societies, including and not limited to the American Society of Anesthesiology, Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiology, Sigma Xi Scientific Research Honor Society–Membership at Large, Outcomes Research Consortium, Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine. He is also actively involved in Abstract Reviewer committee for the International Anesthesia Research Society, Association of University Anesthesiologists, and Society of Critical Care.

Aboud AlJa’bari, University of Jordan, Jordan

New Content ItemProf Aboud AlJa’bari did his fellowship in France and Switzerland in Cardiothoracic anesthesia as well as in Regional anesthesia and Pain Medicine, and he is now a Consultant in Cardiothoracic, Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine. John Doyle, Cleveland Clinic, USA

Dr. Doyle is recently retired from the Department of General Anesthesiology at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio, where he also  served as Professor of Anesthesiology at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. He received his MD degree in 1982 and his PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering in 1986, both from the University of Toronto. He received his Canadian board certification in anesthesia (FRCPC) in 1986 and his American certification in 1989.

Dr. Doyle has a long-standing interest in ENT anesthesia and difficult airway management as well as an interest in the use of technology in medicine. He is past president of both the Society for Airway Management and the Society for Technology in Anesthesia. His favorite work, coedited with Dr. Basem Abdelmalak, is entitled Anesthesia for Otolaryngologic Surgery (Cambridge University Press, 2012). Another book, entitled Clinical Airway Management: An Illustrated Case-Based Approach (also co-edited with Dr. Abdelmalak) was published by Cambridge University Press in 2017.

Patrice Forget, University of Aberdeen, UK

Professor Patrice Forget, M.D. Ph.D., has worked as Clinical Professor in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine in Belgium, and as President of the Belgian Pain Society. In 2019, he has been appointed as Clinical Chair in Anaesthesia at the University of Aberdeen (UK), and Honorary Consultant at the NHS Grampian.

He is involved in clinical research, focused on mainly pain, perioperative epidemiology and clinical pharmacology. For the last ten years, as principal investigator and/or national coordinator, he published more than 150 articles, letters or editorials.

He is the Chair of the PANDOS (Pain AND Opioids after Surgery) ESAIC Research Group (European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care).

Jose Navas, University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital, USA

He then obtained the degree of Anesthesiologist at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, Michigan, followed by fellowships of Critical Care Medicine and Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology at the University of Miami. He joined the reviewer board of BMC Anesthesiology in 2019, and became Senior Editorial Board Member in 2021. Alexandre Joosten, Bicetre Hospital, Brussels

New Content ItemDr. Alexandre Joosten graduaded from medical school at the Université Libre de Bruxelles in 2008. He subsequently went on to receive his training in Anesthesiology at CHU Brugmann, from which he graduated in 2013. He then started practicing in the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Anesthesia at Erasme hospital in Brussels, Belgium. In February 2014, he decided to diversify his professional knowledge and skills with a 1-year research fellowship at the University of California, Irvine, USA with Dr. Maxime Cannesson as his personal mentor. There, he worked as a leading member of his research team on goal directed therapy strategies and how to implement this concept at the bedside. His others interests include noninvasive cardiac output monitoring devices, fluid therapy, and many other novel perioperative technologies. Dr. Joosten’s main research currently focuses on testing the impact of perioperative hemodynamic optimization using closed-loop automated fluid management system on postoperative outcome of patients undergoing high risk surgery. Dr. Alexandre Joosten is also an Associate Editor in Anesthesia & Analgesia and Journal of Clinical Monitoring and Computing. He is also a reviewer for > 50 peer-review journals including the JAMA, BJA, Anesthesiology, Journal of Clinical Anesthesia among others. Lastly, Dr. Alexandre Joosten is the chair of the Subcommittee 14 (Monitoring , Ultrasound and equipment) at the ESAIC ( European society of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care). Dr. Alexandre Joosten works today in Paris (Bicetre and Paul Brousse hospitals) mainly in major abdominal surgery including a huge activity of liver transplant surgery.

Laura Pasin, University Hospital of Padua, Italy

She worked as a consultant at San Raffaele Scientific Institute in Milan and moved to the University Hospital of Padua in 2016, where she actually works.

She is the author of more than 100 publications (articles, abstracts, book chapters) and she has participated as a speaker at several national and international meetings. Her main fields of research are haemodynamic monitoring, haemodynamic optimization and mechanical ventilation.

Dr. Fuat Saner graduated from the Johannes Gutenberg Universität in Mainz (Germany) and completed his medical training at the Horst-Schmidt- Kliniken Hospital in Wiesbaden. His clinical and scientific interests focus on perioperative care for patients with acute and chronic liver failure and end-stage liver disease requiring liver transplantation. After moving to Essen, he became Director of the Surgical Critical Care Unit at the Department of General-, Visceral- and Transplant Surgery at Medical Center University Duisburg-Essen.

His current research investigates the causes of hemodynamic instability during after liver transplantation, coagulation disorder in end stage liver disease and infection post liver transplantation. Dr. Saner has published widely on these topics and has given many national and international presentations on liver transplantation and the management of cirrhotic patients. He is active in the International Liver Transplantation Society (ILTS), Liver Intensive Care Group of Europe (LICAGE, from 5/2018-5/2022 President) and in the national Critical Care society (DIVI) as chair in the liver failure group.

Savino Spadaro, University of Ferrara, Italy
